Our Mission Statement:

The mission of the Committee is to plan and implement Holocaust commemoration centered in Greeley and Northern Colorado, to inform and educate about the perils of prejudice, racism , hatred, and bigotry from the perspective of the European Holocaust, so that persons, groups, or governments never again inflict such atrocities.

Who We Are

The Holocaust Memorial Observances remind our community that antisemitism wiped out an entire generation of human beings and their rich and vibrant heritage throughout Europe. Millions of bystanders watched as hatred fostered by antisemitism grew and flourished and the individuals who opposed the demonic actions of the Nazis were few and far between.  Now, as then, we encounter antisemitism on a regular basis in our communities and throughout the world. It is the hope of the Holocaust Memorial Observances of Greeley and Northern Colorado that by offering a week-long series of programs and events, we can all work together to counteract hate, bigotry and prejudice in all of its insidious forms, thereby preserving the cultural and social integrity of our communities through a greater historical understanding of the Holocaust and its relevance today.  The Holocaust Memorial Observances committee is comprised of dedicated local individuals committed to offering varied educational opportunities to participants to learn more about the Holocaust and strategies for combating hate, bigotry and prejudice.

Purpose of Observance

The goal of the Holocaust Memorial Observances is to provide memorial and educational experiences for the citizens of Northern Colorado concerning the atrocities perpetrated by the Nazis and their collaborators principally, but not exclusively, against European Jews between 1933 and 1945.  While the Jews were the central target of the Third Reich, the disabled, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Seventh Day Adventists, LGBTQ people and the Roma, among others, were also victims of the Nazis. The Holocaust Observances annually remember and honor the 12 million who perished at the hands of the Nazi regime.  The Holocaust Observances seeks to educate and empower members of our community, inviting them to view the world through the eyes of others who, while they share our common humanity, may differ from ourselves in lifestyle, religion, ethnicity, language or gender. Tolerance is the cornerstone of community harmony and civil discourse.  We remember the Holocaust so that members of our community may be courageous in opposing hate, bigotry and prejudice.
